Yashar Farmanara announced as Elite 15 Head Coach for 2016/2017 season

Spartan Sport Group is pleased to announce that Yashar Farmanara will be the head coach of the program’s inaugural Elite 15 team in the 2016/2017 season.

“Our program coaches are required to be dedicated and passionate, with a desire to build a positive culture and teach the game with tremendous impact for our student athletes. In my experience with Yashar there is no one that will work harder and devote more to the success of each player on that team. Yashar has a strong knowledge of the game and what it takes to get to the next level” shared Willie Desjardins, Senior Program Director. “I believe he will create an outstanding environment and program as part of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, and expose students to the necessary habits required to play at a higher level – whether that is Junior A, WHL, or NCAA.”

Farmanara is a native of Vancouver, and amassed 310 games in the WHL for Seattle, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat before moving onto Western University, playing CIS hockey and competing for a National Championship with the Mustangs. He has also represented Canada on an international stage, helping his team capture a bronze medal at the 2011 Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey.

A back injury prematurely ended his professional career, and for the past three years Yashar has been coaching the Midget A1 Hollyburn Huskies, competing in 2 Final Fours along with a Provincial Championship. He has played for a number of coaches with professional and collegiate experience, including Willie Desjardins in Medicine Hat and Western University’s Clark Singer (7 time OUA Coach of the Year and CIS Coach of the Year in 2002).

Farmanara reiterated the optimism for this program’s first Elite-15 team: “It’s very exciting to see young players that are motivated to get to the next level. Our goal as a team will be to win a championship, and the only way to do that is to continuously work and believe in the process. It’s not enough to only be proficient on the ice. The more confident and motivated you are in all areas of your life, whether it be academics, community involvement, or mental wellness, the better chance you have to be successful in anything you pursue, including hockey.”

Yashar will be joining an already strong supplementary coaching staff that consists of skills coach Ryan Kerr, assistant coach Paul Reinhart, goaltending coach Jeff Battah, and strength and conditioning coach Brad Kahn. Spartan Sport Group is expected to announce the remainder of their coaching staff prior to their evaluation camp on May 7th and 8th in North Vancouver.

PRESS RELEASE: CSSHL expands to West Vancouver

Wednesday, March 9, 2016 – Submitted by CSSHL Media
PENTICTON, BC — The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) today announced that they will be expanding into West Vancouver, BC starting in the 2016-17 season.

The Hockey Canada Sport School is a partnership between Spartan Sport Group, West Vancouver Schools and Hollyburn Country Club. The yet to be named Academy will be holding a community naming contest.

During the 2016-17 season, the Academy will be icing teams in the CSSHL’s Elite 15s Division and Midget Varsity Division.

“The league is very excited to have a Sport School enter the West Vancouver area,” said CSSHL chairperson Andy Oakes. “We feel this now has the lower mainland covered for Sport School operations. This member partner brings with them great enthusiasm, knowledge and partnerships that will prove to be a great operation in the future.”

The athletic development and training program will be developed and overseen, and operated by the Spartan Group founded by Yashar Farmanara, Nathan Fischer, and Willie Desjardins.
